Pig Race

Type the names, press Start and let the pigs decide. The finishing order is drawn fairly before the first trot; the muddy race just shows it.

Piggies are in the pen.

Each racer gets its own icon. To choose one, start the line with an emoji, e.g. 🍕 Alex. Excel, CSV and Word lists can be pasted or dropped on the box.

Pig racing is a classic county fair attraction, and this version runs right in your browser as a random name picker. Every name becomes a pink pig in a coloured bandana, trotting in its own lane along a 100-metre muddy track. The pigs splash through puddles, oink as they go and swap places a few times before one trots over the line first.

Because you get the whole finishing order, not only a winner, it works well whenever you need a ranking. The top three stand on a podium, everyone else is listed in order below, and one click copies the results so you can paste them into a chat, an email or a spreadsheet. Up to 60 pigs can race.

How to run a pig race

Is the pig race fair?

Yes. When you press Start, the page shuffles the names with your browser's crypto.getRandomValues, so every finishing order has the same chance. That shuffle is the result. Each pig then gets its own speed curve, with quick trots and moments where it slows in the mud, tuned so it reaches the line at its assigned moment.

A pig that gets stuck in a puddle early is not out of it, and one that leads is not safe. Bandana colour and lane are decoration, and nothing during the race changes who wins. Your list stays in your browser and is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get the full finishing order, not only the winner?

Yes. After every race the first three places appear on a podium and the rest of the field is listed in order. Press Copy results to copy the whole list as text.

How does Remove winner work?

Tick Remove winner after race and the winning name is taken off the list as soon as the race ends. Race again and the remaining pigs compete, which is handy for handing out several prizes one by one.

Does the pig race make sound?

Yes: countdown beeps, oinks from the pigs along the track and a fanfare for the winner. The sounds are made in the browser and can be switched off in the race settings.

How many pigs can race at once?

Up to 60, each in its own lane. With a very long list the pigs and name tags get smaller, so for a large group run a few heats and then a final for the heat winners.
