Enter a range, choose how many numbers you want, and press Generate. The result shows up large, with your recent draws listed below.
This random number generator picks whole numbers between a minimum and a maximum that you set. The range can include negative numbers and reach as far as one billion in either direction. Ask for a single number, such as a random number between 1 and 100, or draw up to 1,000 numbers at once for a sample, a seating plan, or a lottery-style pick.
People use an RNG like this to settle a guess-the-number game, choose a raffle ticket, pick a page in a book, assign random IDs, or build test data. Two switches cover the most common needs. No repeats makes every number in a draw different. Sort results lists the numbers from smallest to largest so they are easy to read or check.
How to pick a random number
Each draw takes one click.
- Type the minimum and maximum. Both are whole numbers and both ends are included, so 1 to 6 can return 1 or 6.
- Set how many numbers you want, from 1 to 1,000.
- No repeats is on by default so every number is unique. Turn it off to allow the same number twice, and turn on Sort results to list them in order.
- Press Generate. The numbers appear in a large display, and the draw is added to your history.
- Press Copy to paste the numbers into a spreadsheet, chat, or document.
Why the numbers are fair
The numbers come from crypto.getRandomValues, the same source browsers use for security work. A plain shortcut such as taking a random value and using the remainder after division would make some numbers slightly more likely than others. This tool avoids that by using rejection sampling: any raw value that would tip the odds is thrown away and a new one is drawn.
The result is that every whole number in your range has the same chance on every draw. Past results do not change future ones, so a number that just came up is as likely as any other next time, unless No repeats is on for that draw.
Tips and limits
- With No repeats on, you cannot ask for more numbers than the range holds. A range of 1 to 50 gives at most 50 unique numbers.
- For a lottery-style pick, set the range to the ticket numbers, turn on No repeats, and sort the results.
- Want a visual draw for a group? Spin the random number wheel instead.
- For board games, the dice roller shows each die and the total.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a random number between 1 and 100?
Set the minimum to 1 and the maximum to 100, leave the count at 1, and press Generate. Both 1 and 100 can come up, and every number in between has the same chance.
Can the generator use negative numbers?
Yes. The minimum and maximum can be any whole numbers from minus one billion to one billion, so ranges like -50 to 50 or -1,000 to -1 work. Decimals are not supported.
What does No repeats do?
It makes every number in a single draw different, like pulling numbered balls from a bag without putting them back. It is on by default. Turn it off and the same number can appear more than once in a multi-number draw.
Is this RNG truly random?
It uses your browser's crypto-grade random source with rejection sampling, so there is no bias toward any number. That is far more even than shortcuts built on Math.random and is suitable for games, raffles, and sampling.
