Every slice says "?" until the wheel stops. Nobody knows what is coming, so the reveal is the best part.
The mystery wheel hides its labels. In Mystery mode each slice shows a question mark, so the people watching can't aim for the slice they want or groan when the pointer drifts toward a bad one. The real entry only appears in the winner pop-up after the spin ends. That small delay turns any list into a surprise draw.
Hosts use a mystery spinner for party prizes and gift exchanges, where half the fun is not knowing. Teachers use a hidden wheel for classroom rewards, so students stay curious about what the next prize will be. Friends fill one with dares or forfeits that only get read out once the wheel has picked. The sample list mixes small prizes and quick challenges.
Setting up a hidden wheel
Mystery mode is already on for this page. You only need to swap in your own surprises.
- Type your prizes or dares in the entry box, one per line.
- Check the list before you show the screen, since the box shows the real labels.
- Spin. Every slice reads "?" while it turns.
- Read the result in the pop-up and hand out the surprise.
Making the reveal feel bigger
A mystery wheel is mostly about the moment the result appears, so give it some build-up. Set a longer spin time, up to 30 seconds, and pick a ticking spin sound. Turn on confetti and a fanfare for the winner. A custom winner message like "You got: {name}!" puts the prize name inside your own sentence.
For a gift exchange, write each gift as a number or a short hint and keep the real list on paper. Spin, read the number, and hand over the matching box.
Keeping the odds fair
Hidden labels do not change the chances. Each entry still has an equal shot unless you give it a weight in the Advanced editor. If one prize should be rare, lower its weight. Want one surprise per person? Use remove-winner so a prize that has been claimed leaves the wheel.
Frequently asked questions
Can people see the answers on a mystery wheel?
Not on the wheel itself. Every slice shows a question mark while it spins. The real labels are still in the entry box, so close or hide the editor before you put the wheel on a shared screen.
Is a mystery wheel rigged in any way?
No. Each entry has the same chance unless you set weights yourself. The winner is drawn with a crypto random number before the animation starts, and hiding the labels only changes what people see.
Can I turn the labels back on?
Yes. Switch the mode back to Normal and the slices show their real text again. Your entries are not changed when you switch between modes, so you can flip back and forth.
What makes a good mystery prize list?
Mix a few exciting items with many small ones so the big prize feels special. Keep dares short and safe for the group. For kids, stickers, extra recess minutes, or picking the next game work well.
