The random animal wheel mixes twenty well-known animals from many habitats. There are big cats from the savanna, birds of prey, ocean animals like the octopus and shark, Australian animals, and farm animals. Spin it and one animal comes up, with each one given an equal slice. The pick happens before the wheel starts, so the spin is fair every time.

Teachers use it to assign animals for short research reports or to start a science lesson. Kids love it for drawing time and for acting games where you move like the animal that comes up. It also helps with stories: spin for a main character and let the animal shape the plot.

    Games with a random animal

An animal is easy to act out, draw, or describe, so the wheel fits lots of games:

    Animal report topics

For a class project, turn on remove-winner and let each student spin once. Every animal can be picked only once, so the class covers a range of habitats. Ask students to cover diet, habitat, size, and one way the animal is adapted to where it lives.

For a unit on one habitat, replace the list with ocean animals, rainforest animals, or desert animals only.

    Making your own animal list

The default twenty are a starting mix. Add insects, reptiles, or dinosaurs if your group is into them, or cut the list down to pets for younger kids. Keep the names short so they fit the slices, and save the wheel in this browser to reuse it next time.

    Frequently asked questions

Which animals are on the wheel?

Twenty common animals from several habitats, including lion, elephant, penguin, octopus, owl, kangaroo, panda, wolf, horse, frog, and shark. You can add or remove any of them in the entry box.

Can I make an ocean-only or farm-only wheel?

Yes. Clear the list and type only the animals you want, one per line. A themed wheel works well for a lesson on one habitat. Save it so you can open it again later.

Is this the same as a spirit animal picker?

No. This wheel is for games, drawing, and learning. The spirit animal picker is a separate, just-for-fun wheel where the result is meant as a playful match for your personality.

How do I give each student a different animal?

Turn on remove-winner before the first spin. After each pick the animal leaves the wheel, so the next student can only get one that has not been taken yet.
